The "Sweet Jesus Talking Boy" Copyright 2006 by Michael H. Thomson is a work of fiction. Here's a story. It's only a story. It takes place in a small town in the South. The town could be in Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, or any number of places where wealth and power corrupt. Such towns exist and have existed throughout the South's history.


Once there was a young girl in this small town from a humble family – a good family, but humble. The young girl was at tender age between being a little girl and a woman. She went to church regularly and had a tendency towards being religious. Because of the woman bursting out inside the little girl, her parent's kept a tight rein. Not tight enough to protect her, unfortunately…


Here's a boy. Not very bright – some would say mentally challenged in some ways. The boy, unlike the girl, does not come from humble beginnings. His parents are rich. However, very much like all boys, he has his desires and passions. He also has cunning. 


He has met the girl and determined that the way to get into her pants is to talk "Jesus talk."  Are you shocked? Don't be. It happens every day. "Jesus talk" is very acceptable. Today, "Jesus talk" has even become politically correct speech.

Now the little girl has very limited time to meet boys. Her parents are always watching her like hawks. The poor baby, only wanting some attention, was very unfortunate when she met the "Sweet Jesus talking" boy. She was also very unfortunate also when her parents gave her a car. The car was her downfall, you see. If she did not have the car, she could not have rendezvoused with the mentally challenged, "Jesus talking" boy who always followed her in his late model pickup truck to a pre-determined meeting spot.


The little rich boy had a modus operandi you might say. He would go through his "Jesus talking" seduction rituals and after the seduction was accomplished, he would become increasingly brutal with his victims – yes, you heard it right – victims. He didn't kill them, but he still had victims of his rage. They're still out there – some could be your neighbors - and they still remember the "Sweet Jesus Talking" boy. Why was the stocky built boy so brutal? It could be that the "guilts" set in after he accomplished his conquests and not wanting to admit his own failings, he blamed his fall from grace on his victim and would punish her for leading him astray. While I understand his reasoning, "Sweet Jesus Talking" boy is still a killer, abuser, and victim of his own vices of drink and drugs.


On the fateful day of the young girl's death, "The Sweet Jesus Talking" boy set up the rendezvous point as normal and followed the little girl as she drove away in her car. What started out as regular sex became increasingly violent. Some say "Jesus boy" was not alone, but had friends who liked to watch and sometimes participate. Friends who like him loved drugs and booze. The little girl to them was nothing but sport. An innocent child who had wandered into their web and got caught. An autopsy showed that numerous men had put sperm in the little girl's vagina. Of course, this never came out in the news media or the trial. There were reasons.


Did I tell you the rich "Sweet Jesus Talking" boy was a little dimwitted, slow some would say. Well he had another characteristic; he tended not to hide things, particularly from his father

Up until I mentioned the issue with the sperm, this seems like a pretty well open and shut murder case doesn't it?  Trust me friends – and there are some of you who know all too well – in this little town there is nothing that's really open and shut.


For you see, the town has a godfather, yep, just like in the mafia. Some of you think you know who the godfather is – but he's not who you think. I'll give you a clue. If you ever watched the Godfather, you know that Marlon Brando played Don Corleone. Don Corleone's chief advisor or consigliore was played by Robert Duvall. In the sad tale concerning the murder of the little girl, the godfather and the consigliore are one in the same person. Put your thinking caps on  for that one.


The small town's godfather was not involved in the killing of the little girl. Nevertheless, the godfather was involved in the cover-up of the actual details of the murder.  Here's how it went down:


Like Don Corleone, the godfather has his fingers in everything that goes on in this small town. If some poor black family owns mineral rights to a plot of land that has black gold flowing beneath it, the godfather is going to get his hands on those rights one way or the other. Of course, before I get you thinking he's racist, let me assure you, the godfather is an equal opportunity swindler. Skin color makes no difference to him. He's even stuck it to his own in-laws. He goes by another version of the golden rule: He who has the gold rules!

Like all godfathers, this one is a control freak. He will do anything in his power to keep his castle from falling in upon itself - very much so in the case of the "Sweet Jesus Talking" boy.

The boy's dad – like many in the slow little southern town was a millionaire – doing well in speculation and production of black gold. The godfather and he had a very tight relationship.


Think of the shock and panic the boy's dad went through when three days after the murder, rape, sodomy, and torture of the young girl, his "Sweet Jesus Talking" boy tells him, "Daddy, I did it!"


Oh the anger, the panic, the confusion, and sheer torture the dad must have gone through. He didn't want to see his dimwitted son fry! He'd known his son was running with a bad crowd. A crowd that liked to drink too much, smoke weed, and occasionally take pills and suck white powder up their collective noses. What to do? What to do? The dad thinks to himself. Then he thought of the godfather.


The godfather and the dad had been in some business deals together in the oil business. A "you grab them, I'll stab them" kind of business - cheating people out of their mineral rights, and then drilling and raking off profits for themselves. The dad brought the sad tale of his "Sweet Jesus Talking" son to the godfather's attention.


The godfather uncharacteristically panicked when he heard the tale. Why, you might ask? Simply because the godfather did not want the slow-witted boy to be interrogated on anyone's witness stand. Even slow-witted, the boy knew things about others that were close to the godfather and the interests he represented. So, within a few days of the death of the little girl, the godfather hatched an elaborate plan of damage control. Finding out who participated in the evil deed was easy for the godfather. He controlled the police chief, the hospital, and especially the many people he held power over. He knew everything that went down in the town, so finding the culprits was easy. Now who to take the blame for the murder? That was easy too, one of the participants, at least in the rape, was black and slow-witted himself. Even though the black man had a strong connection to the godfather's family, he was the logical one to sacrifice to the bar of justice.

Now how to stage manage the trial so the public would be satisfied. Easy…


The police chief, the prosecuting attorney, the defense attorney, the godfather, and the godfather's slightly dim-witted boss all participated in the cover-up. It had to be covered up or the empire might collapse in the bright light of publicity.

The police chief's role was to subtly change the crime scene. The prosecuting attorney took orders and played his part and the defense attorney was told to do the best he could do. Get this; all of them would get together even during the trial to discuss their strategy for making sure their sacrificial lamb was convicted.


How about the dim-witted "Sweet Jesus Talking" boy?  "Get him out of town!" said the godfather. Soon the dim-witted boy was living near the beach in another state and set up in a small business even he could handle.

What about the little girl's parents? If they knew about the dim-witted boy, they weren't talking. Justice was served or so they were led to believe…


Like I said at the beginning, this could be anywhere in the South - perhaps that is too limiting. It could occur anywhere. Anywhere citizens allow money and power to take ascendance over law and fair government. Look at Aruba and the case of the missing girl from Alabama. A entire country - corrupt to the core. Yes, it could happen anywhere... Government should be of laws rather than of men - unfortunately that is not always the case.


Somewhere, near a beach, a dimwitted "Sweet Jesus Talking" man watches and waits…
